You can place holds on most library materials via the internet using our online catalog from the library or home.

You may place a hold on any item in the library, except new DVD’s and reference books. You may also place holds on materials from other libraries. The computer may not allow you to request restricted items, such as new books and bestsellers, civil service and other test books, new VHS and DVD entertainment videos and other audiovisual materials. Loan rules vary from library to library.
If the item you want is not listed in the online catalog or you are having trouble with your request, please contact the reference desk at 957-7755 during normal business hours. We will notify you by phone when your material(s) come in or if they are unavailable. Postcards will be sent if phone contact is not possible. Please check with the circulation desk to verify or change the phone number we have on file for you.
To place a hold(s):
1. Log on to the library's catalog through our homepage http://lml.suffolk.lib.ny.us
then click on catalog or go directly to the catalog using the address http://alpha2.suffolk.lib.ny.us/search~S35
2. Search for the item you want to request, by author, title, subject, or keyword.
3. When you find the record of the item you want to request, click thebutton .
4. You will be asked to type in your library card barcode number and PIN, then press enter.
5. If you do not have a PIN already you will be prompted to create one and to confirm it. If you are not prompted to create and confirm your PIN, please contact the reference desk for assistance. Your PIN must be 6 to 8 characters in length. You may use numbers, letters, or a combination of these.
Please remember your PIN.
Your hold will become effective the morning after it is placed. If you use the Check Your Patron Record option you will not see your new hold(s) listed until the next day.
